On Sept 3, Cheng Kai, chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and president of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), met with Majid Rashed, president of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) who was in Beijing to attend the Care & Rehabilitation Expo China 2026. Chang Zheng, vice-chairman of the CDPF, also attended the meeting.
Cheng welcomed Rashed, thanked the APC for its long-standing support for the development of China's Paralympic movement, and briefed him on the latest progress in China's cause of of people with disabilities.
He noted that the Chinese government has consistently followed a people-centered development philosophy, incorporated disability affairs into the overall national economic and social development plan, and advanced them in a coordinated manner. China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for national economic and social development includes a dedicated section on enhancing the protection and development capacity of persons with disabilities. With the State Council's approval, the plan for the protection and development of persons with disabilities during the 15th Five-Year Plan period has been issued with the aim of achieving higher-quality development of cause of people with disabilities, Cheng said.
He added that China actively promotes the balanced development of competitive and mass sports for persons with disabilities and works to empower parasport through science and technology. Participation in parasport activities has risen notably across the country, and the social atmosphere of understanding, respecting, caring for, and helping persons with disabilities has grown stronger.
Cheng said that the NPC and the APC have long maintained friendly and cooperative relations. China will, as always, support the APC, jointly advance the development of Paralympic sports in Asia, and enhance unity and inclusiveness in the region.
Rashed spoke highly of China's achievements in disability programs and expressed hope that China will continue to share its experience and practices in using technology to promote sports participation and social inclusion of persons with disabilities, and support and drive the sustainable development of Paralympic sports in Asia.
Officials from the CDPF's Department of Sports and the Department of International Liaison also attended the meeting.
