Ahead of the 36th National Day for Assisting Disabled Persons, State Councilor Shen Yiqin, also director of the State Council's Working Committee for Disabled People, inspected disability-related work and visited persons with disabilities in Beijing. She stressed that it is crucial to safeguard the equal rights and interests of these groups of people and promote their inclusive development.
During a visit to Beijing Massage Hospital, Shen reviewed work on employment, vocational training and rights protection for the disabled. She noted that employment is the foundation of people's wellbeing and a vital pathway for persons with disabilities to realize their value and live a better life. She called for establishing a full-chain service system covering employment support, skills enhancement, career development and rights protection, so as to further expand employment and entrepreneurship channels for the disabled. Shen also underscored the need to address their rehabilitation needs, advance targeted rehabilitation services, and accelerate progress toward the goal of rehabilitation services for all.
The theme of this year's National Day for Assisting Disabled Persons is "Safeguard the equal rights and interests of persons with disabilities and promote their inclusive development." Shen stressed the need to champion the values of "equality, inclusion and sharing," continue to improve the quality of public services for the disabled, and foster an enabling social environment in which they are understood, respected, cared for and supported by the whole of society.
