Zhou Changkui, vice-chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and chairman of its Board of Executive Directors, met with a Lions Clubs International delegation led by its President A. P. Singh in Beijing on April 1.
Chang Zheng, vice-chairman of the CDPF, and You Liang, president of China Council of Lions Clubs (CCLC) also attended the meeting.
Zhou welcomed Singh's visit to the CDPF and expressed gratitude to the Lions Clubs International for its long-standing support for the development of China's disability cause. He highlighted that China attaches great importance to the development of disability undertakings, having incorporated them into the overall plan for national economic and social development.
He said China has continuously improved its legal and policy framework for safeguarding the rights and interests of persons with disabilities, upgraded the social security and care service system, established a dynamic monitoring and assistance mechanism to prevent a return to poverty, and significantly enhanced the sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security for persons with disabilities, Zhou said.
According to Zhou, China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) included a dedicated section on strengthening the protection and development capabilities of persons with disabilities, aiming to improve their well-being. He also stated that the CDPF is ready to deepen practical cooperation with the Lions Clubs International, continuously promote the development of the disability cause in China, and contribute to the progress of the international disability cause and philanthropic endeavors.
Singh spoke highly of China's latest achievements in developing its disability services and the significant role China plays in promoting international public welfare and charity efforts. He expressed his hope to strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation between the two sides.
The Lions Clubs International was founded in the United States in 1917 and conducts charitable activities worldwide, including support for persons with disabilities and care for the elderly. In 2005, CCLC was established, and joined the Lions Clubs International as a corporate member.
The meeting was also attended by officials from the CDPF's Department of International Liaison and relevant CCLC representatives.
