Li Dongmei, member of the Leading Party Members Group and vice-chairwoman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), led a team to Shanghai from May 28 to 29 to conduct a survey on education for people with disabilities. The team also attended a performance by the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe.
The team visited the Shanghai School for the Blind to gain a deeper understanding of the school's development. Li and her team met with children with disabilities, extended festive greetings ahead of International Children's Day, and encouraged them to study hard, live happily, and strive to become well-rounded contributors to society.
A symposium was held during the survey, where representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation reported on the progress of special education during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25). The meeting also gathered suggestions from principals of special education schools, experts, and parents on the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), particularly regarding the protection and development of persons with disabilities, as well as the formulation of a new special education enhancement plan..
Li acknowledged Shanghai's notable progress in promoting education for people with disabilities. She stressed that disabled persons' federations at all levels should ensure the high-quality completion of tasks under the 14th Five-Year Plan, enhance research and policy assessment, and support the education authorities in drafting the special education enhancement plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan.
During her time in Shanghai, Li also held discussions with executives from the Bank of Communications on strategic cooperation to promote inclusive development and shared prosperity for persons with disabilities.
Officials from the Department of Basic Education of the Ministry of Education, the CDPF's Department of Education and Employment, the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission participated in the survey.
