The China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) held a video symposium to discuss work in key regions on assisting people with disabilities through technological advancements on May 13. Zhou Changkui, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the CDPF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Hu Xiangyang, vice-chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the CDPF, chaired the meeting.
Representatives from disabled persons' federations at provincial and municipal levels gave speeches. They emphasized the importance of implementing the guiding opinions on promoting assistive technology for people with disabilities, increasing guidance and support for key regions, and making further efforts to empower people with disabilities with advanced technology.
Representatives from the key regions highlighted their need to leverage local technological and industrial advantages to promote the research, development, and application of assistive technologies, in order to improve the livelihoods of people with disabilities and support the development of services and industries for this group.
Zhou said that strengthening technological assistance for people with disabilities is a crucial task in enhancing their well-being and a pressing need to improve the overall development of the cause of people with disabilities. Key regions focusing on assistance for people with disabilities through accessible technology should implement pilot tasks, intensify the research and development of assistive technologies, facilitate the application of technological achievements, and advance the assistive technology industry. These regions are encouraged to achieve landmark results in technological innovations, build innovation capabilities, improve people's well-being, and foster industrial development. Collaborative platforms integrating government, industry, academia, research, and application should be established to ensure the effective implementation of key regional tasks, Zhou noted.
During the symposium, the CDPF, along with disabled persons' federations at provincial and municipal levels and the key regions, signed strategic cooperation agreements on assistive technology for people with disabilities.
Representatives from CDPF's relevant departments, affiliated units, as well as officials from relevant provincial and municipal disabled persons' federations and government representatives from key regions also attended the meeting.
