Cheng Kai, chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), attended an exchange event and symposium hosted by the China Association of Persons with Psychiatric Disability and their Relatives (CAPPDR) in Beijing, on May 11.
Cheng engaged with families of persons with psychiatric disabilities and emphasized that this year marks the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and a crucial period for laying the foundation for a good start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). He stressed the need to prioritize high-quality development of disability support, especially by bolstering social security and service frameworks.
He urged for the high-standard completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan goals and the scientific formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan to safeguard and advance the well-being of individuals with disabilities. Cheng acknowledged the critical role that the CAPPDR and the families and friends of people with disabilities play in advancing the development of disability affairs.
He encouraged them to continue contributing ideas and suggestions to the cause, and stressed that efforts should focus on safeguarding the legal rights of persons with disabilities and strengthening connections with them.
Twelve representatives from families of people with psychiatric disabilities and social organizations assisting individuals with disabilities presented their suggestions for future work. The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants, including representatives from the CDPF's Department of Liaison and Department of Education and Employment, the CAPPDR, and various support organizations from across the country.
