Sixteen outstanding proposals have been selected from the "Museum for Everyone: Innovative Practices in Accessibility and Inclusion" call for submissions, an initiative which was launched by UNESCO and the Chinese Museums Association (CMA) in October 2024.
A total of 75 proposals from 60 museums across China were submitted, covering scopes including physical accessibility, digital accessibility, and accessible education and activities.
Under the strategic and technical guidance of UNESCO's Regional Office for East Asia and the CMA, an expert panel consisting of 17 specialists and scholars from the museum sector, the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and organizations of persons with disabilities to evaluate the proposals. The evaluation was based on criteria of innovation, effectiveness, impact, sustainability, replicability and inclusivity.
The selected proposals provide solutions and practical experiences worthy of further exploration and promotion on a global level to continuously advance accessibility for all.
The selected cases will be featured in UNESCO's forthcoming publication Museums for Everyone: Innovative Practices in Accessibility and Inclusion.
