Zhang Haidi attends Tokyo Paralympics celebration at Japanese Embassy

Upon invitation by Japanese Ambassador to China Hideo Tarumi, Zhang Haidi, president of the Chinese Paralympic Committee, attended a celebratory event hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Beijing to recognize the outstanding performance of the Chinese delegation at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Zhang, also chairperson of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), applauded the efforts made by the Japanese government and Tokyo Organizing Committee to successfully host the 2020 Paralympic Games and thanked them for the hospitality they showed to the Chinese athletes. The two countries have carried out fruitful cooperation in disability affairs, she said, adding that she hopes for more cooperation and exchanges in sports, rehabilitation, culture and arts to promote the common development of disability undertakings in both countries. She also welcomed the participation of the Japanese delegation in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games.

Tarumi thanked China for its participation in the Tokyo Paralympic Games and congratulated Chinese delegation on its outstanding performance. He also forwarded a letter from Japanese Paralympic Committee president Torihara Mitsunori to his Chinese counterpart Zhang. In the letter, Mitsunori said he is looking forward to the Beijing Winter Paralympics and will lead the Japanese delegation to join the games in person.

Representatives of the Chinese athletes attended the event as well and shared their stories from the games.
