6th national working conference on disability held in Beijing
The sixth national working conference on disability was held on July 22 in Beijing. State Councilor Wang Yong attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Wang, also director of the State Council's Disabled Person Work Committee (SCDPWC), emphasized learning the latest instructions from the central leadership on disability work and implementing its deployment on promoting the overall development and prosperity of persons with disabilities. He urged to reinforce organization and leadership of disability work and continuously enhance the well-being of the disabled and their sense of gain, happiness and security.
Wang recognized the achievements on disability work during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period and urged good implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) to ensure protection and development of the disabled, focusing on consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation for the disabled, promoting employment and strengthening work on disability prevention, rehabilitation and accessibility construction. He also stressed reinforcing the Party's overall leadership on disability work, as well as self governance of disabled persons' federations at all levels so as to achieve high-quality development in disability work.
Zhang Haidi, deputy director of the SCDPWC and chairperson of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) gave a summary speech at the conference. She said that under the guidance of the central leadership, the disabled persons' federations at all levels have strived to lift the disabled out of poverty and achieved set goals. She echoed Wang's instructions on priority work on disability during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, especially promoting employment and entrepreneurship for the disabled to help them fulfill their life values, completing building the University of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences to provide better services to persons with disabilities, and promoting accessibility construction and application of assistive devices to serve the disabled with the power of science and technology.
She also emphasized the bonding role of the disabled persons' federations between the Party and the disabled and urged self-governance enhancement of the grassroots disability organizations.
Party secretary of the CDPF Zhou Changkui, also deputy director of the SCDPWC, delivered a work report on the execution of the 13th Five-Year Plan in disability work and the development plan for the 14th Five-Year Plan period. A session awarding 200 national outstanding units and 399 outstanding individuals on disability work was also held at the conference.
