Special Olympics of 9th National Fitness Week successfully held
On August 3, the Special Olympics of 9th National Fitness Week was successfully held in Pinggu, Beijing. The competition features swimming and roller skating. More than 300 people participated in the event.
The opening ceremony for the Special Olympics of the 9th National Fitness Week is held in Pinggu, Beijing, on August 3.
Chen Guomin, vice chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF), and officials from CDPF Sports Department, China Association of Persons with Intellectual Disability and their Relatives, Beijing Disabled Persons’ Federation and Pinggu government took part in the opening ceremony.
Zhang Haidi, chairwoman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, sent a congratulatory letter. Chen read the full letter at the opening ceremony.
President Xi Jinping urged "extraordinary concern for the disabled" and "completely building a well-off society for all including people with disabilities". Chen said the Special Olympics swimming and skating competitions were held to the practice the requests.
He said that Special Olympics activities are inseparable from the courageous participation of people with intellectual disabilities, active encouragement of their friends and relatives and the support of all walks of life.
Chen spoke highly of such activities, enabling people with intellectual disabilities to walk out of their family, and participate in society.
At the same time, he also praised the service work in Pinggu District and fully affirmed their achievements in the Special Olympic sports work for people with intellectual disabilities.

After the game, Gao Ning, a teacher at the Pinggu District Special Education Center, said that the competition scene is impressive. The swimming program can help these children improve coordination and better help them grow up healthily. “I hope everyone can actively join the Special Olympics, bravely fight and keep fit,” said Gao.
This activity echoes the 2019 Tianjin National Paralympic Games, fully demonstrating the optimistic and active spirits of the people with intellectual disabilities in the new era.
