China sends more than 100 athletes to Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi
The 15th World Summer Special Olympics is being held from Mar 14 to 21 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
China sent more than 100 athletes to participate in this international competition. They will participate in 10 events including track and field, swimming, football, basketball, table tennis, weightlifting, gymnastics, roller skating, bocce, and badminton. At the same time, more than a dozen Chinese mainstream media, including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, and Beijing Weekly, will go to Abu Dhabi to report on the event.
The Special Olympics is an international competition based on the Olympic spirit that is specifically targeted at people with intellectual disabilities. According to data provided by the Abu Dhabi Olympic Organizing Committee, this Special Olympics will have more than 750 Special Olympics athletes, over 4,000 coaches and staff andmore than 20,000 volunteers, with more than 500,000 audience.
This year’s Special Olympics World Summer Games has 24 events, including track and field, swimming, basketball, weightlifting and triathlon.
In addition, various activities will be held in Abu Dhabi during the event, such as a city reception, an athlete health plan, a family plan, functional activity training, and a global youth leaders summit.
